Pinch me, I'm in People!!!

Hi y'all,

I'm writing today with some news so extraordinarily exciting that when I got it, via an email from my publicist, I had to reread the message three times to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. The cover reveal for my next book, A Girl to Kill, is in People magazine!

In publishing, when a cover is revealed, the book becomes capital-O official. While my publisher and I have been quietly prepping A Girl to Kill for her debut into society, today is the day she finally gets to put on her dress and curtsy to the king. Or in modern, non-metaphorical terms, my book now has a page at places like Target and Amazon! It's live on Goodreads! Most importantly, A Girl to Kill is available for preorder! Order it today and get it automatically delivered to your door when it comes out!

Preorders are hugely important. In fact, preordering a book is the number-one best way to support its author, so to everyone who grabs a copy today, thank you, thank you, thank you. There is a special, velvet-rope place in heaven reserved for you all. (And for my fellow Austinites who want to shop local, here is the book's preorder page at two of my favorite stores, BookPeople and Vintage!)

I love People magazine. For me, it evokes teenage summers, memories of standing in line at the grocery store, frantically flipping through glossy pages, trying to finish the article I'm reading--probably something about how to get hair like Rachel Green--before the cashier scans my last item. These days, it's the holy grail of exciting publishing news. It's the place that shared a sneak peak of The Missing Half, the place some of my favorite authors introduce their work. So to have my book featured in it today is surreal.

And the cover itself! When the final version appeared in my inbox, I jumped out of my chair and shouted at Kyle to come into my office in a tone I assume led him to believe I was actively bleeding out, then the two of us gazed adoringly at it as we complimented its every detail. That pop of pink! That creepy dead girl! And just look at the way A Novel is scribbled in the L! Like two parents with their newborn, we agreed it was the best book cover that ever was. In the thank-you note I wrote to the designer, I fangirled hard. You need anything, I all but said to the woman I've never actually met, anytime, day or night, you call me. I'll be there.

With A Girl to Kill coming out next summer - June 8th to be precise! - there are lots more updates to come, so stay tuned! In the meantime, if you're looking for additional ways to support me and my book, you can add A Girl to Kill to your want-to-read shelf on Goodreads, post about it on your socials, and share this newsletter with your reader friends! I've said it before, and I'll say it again: My dream job is possible because of people like you, who buy, read, share, and talk about my books. For that, I'm deeply grateful.

xo,

Alex
